Canine-Assisted Learning

Gentle learning

What this looks like

Canine-assisted learning uses calm dogs to make emotional skills easier to practice. In a typical session we sit or move slowly with a dog and try short, simple activities. These might be breathing exercises, naming feelings, practising a short conversation or doing a grounding routine with the dog’s presence. The dog isn’t doing tricks—she’s there to help you notice your body and feel safe. I guide the session and keep things gentle and clear. Sessions are short and practical so you can try tools right away.

We focus on what you want to work on. That might be stress tools, clearer communication or building confidence. Every session is client-led and paced to suit you.

Who benefits most

People who feel stuck, nervous or overwhelmed often find these sessions helpful. Kids, teens and adults can all benefit—especially if talking alone feels hard or if you want hands-on tools to manage big feelings. The dog helps make learning feel safe and less intense, so you can try things you might avoid in a talk-only session. I also work with carers and teachers to bring the learning into daily life. You don’t need dog experience to attend—just an open mind and a willingness to try simple tools. We go slow and only step forward when you feel ready.

What to expect next

Before your first session we’ll have a short chat about what you want to work on and any concerns you have. On the day, we meet in a calm space with the dog nearby. I’ll explain each activity, check in often and keep things flexible. You can take one step at a time—there’s no rush. After the session I’ll share simple tools you can try at home and ideas to practise them in real life. If you want, we can plan a few follow-up sessions to build on your progress. The aim is small, steady wins you can use every day.
